vSphere 5.5 U2 Client can modify VM with hardware version 10

VMware has done enhancements to the VMware vSphere client in the VMware vSphere 5.5 U2 version, through which we can edit the settings of a Virtual Machine with Hardware version 10 or above.

I have seen customers upgraded from the vSphere 5.1 to vSphere 5.5, however they are still running the Virtual Machine’s with Hardware version 9, because of the fact that the virtual machine hardware changes can only be done over the vSphere Web client but not with the vSphere client. So this enhancement is one such a good feature to those who get used to the vSphere Client (C# or Thin Client). I see that most of our VMware Admins/Architects has got used to the vSphere client and are showing little or no interest to use the vSphere Web Client unless its becomes necessary and for the fact that they have got to use it over the years and they feels easy to navigate here and there using the vSphere client.

Here are the following few changes that you can make using the vSphere client:

  • Increase RAM
  • Decrease RAM
  • Change network port group
  • Remove devices
  • Increase vCPU
  • Decrease vCPU
  • Mount ISO
  • Increase disk space
  • Set a limit
  • Remove a limit
  • Set a reservation
  • Remove a reservation
  • Edit advanced settings

This is indeed a good enhancement to VMware vSphere client, so why stopped with Version 9 lets kickoff the version 10 upgrades.
